Posted Dec 6/11 - Panthers open District play with 66-43 victory over Stony Point, move to 17-0; host Westbury Christian Saturday at PHS
ROUND ROCK, Texas- The state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers improved to 17-0 as they opened up District 16-5A action with a 66-43 win over Stony Point Tuesday at Stony Point. It was the District opener for both teams. The win lifts the Panthers, ranked No. 4 in this week's TABC/TexPrep Basketball Magazine's 5A poll, to 17-0. Junior forward Diana Omozee led all Panthers with 12 points, while senior guard Ari Booth and junior guard Taylor Ross added 11 points each. Senior post Itiana Taylor chipped in with 10 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Stony Point drops to 10-7. The two teams met for the second time in four days. On Saturday (Dec. 3) in the finals of the Bowie Tournament in Austin, Pflugerville defeated Stony Point 56-28.

Tuesday, the Panthers took a 26-16 lead into halftime before extending their lead to 20 points (49-29) at the end of the third quarter by out-scoring Stony Point 23-13 in the third period. P'ville forced the Tigers into eight turnovers in the period.

The Panthers had 17 steals in the game, led by Ross (a game-high seven thefts) and Taylor (five steals).

Pflugerville returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when it faces its toughest opponent to date - Westbury Christian - in a 3 p.m. game at Pflugerville. The Houston-based private school (7-3) is the three-time defending 4A state champion in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).

JV, FRESHMEN ALSO EARN WINS OVER STONY POINT

The Pflugerville JV kept its undefeated record intact and moved to 13-0 with a 57-30 win over the Tigers behind a game-high 15 points from sophomore guard Stephanie Onyeje and nine points apiece from sophomore point Mackendra Simmons and sophomore guard Kalea King.

The Panther Freshman Gold (A) squad improved to 12-1 with a 39-24 victory over the Tiger freshmen squad behind leading scorer and point guard Alyssa Washington who pumped in a game-high 24 points.
