| PFLUGERVILLE, Texas--- Behind a 23-point, 11-rebound effort from senior forward Itiana Taylor (pictured) and a 16-point, nine-rebound game by junior forward Diana Omozee, undefeated state-ranked Pflugerville upended Westbury Christian 77-50 Saturday afternoon at the Panther Gym. The Panthers are now 18-0 and rank No. 4 in the Texas Basketball Coaches Association/Tex Prep Magazine 5A poll. Westbury Christian, the three-time defending Texas state TAPPS (private school) 4A champions, are now 7-5. Down 16-15 after one quarter, the Panthers opened up the tight game by outscoring the visitors 27-8 in the second quarter. Taylor had six points and four rebounds in the second-quarter run while junior point guard Taylor Ross added six points and three assists in the quarter. Up 26-22 with 3:10 to play, Taylor hit a turnaround jumper and junior post Jaden Sturm followed with back-to-back layups to push the lead to 32-22 with 2:20 left in the period. Omozee then scored in the paint for a 14-point lead (34-22) with two minutes to go. Ross finished with 15 points and had a game-high five assists. Pflugerville out-rebounded Westbury Christian by a 38-23 margin and forced the Wildcats into 17 turnovers. Pflugerville returns to action on Monday, Dec. 12 when it travels to San Antonio to face San Antonio Wagner in a 7 p.m. contest at Wagner. |
