Posted Feb 3/12 - No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville clinches 22nd District championship with resounding 52-30 victory over Georgetown; Panthers claim sixth District title in last eight years

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas -- Behind a suffocating defense and a balanced scoring attack, the undefeated No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers rolled to a 52-30 victory over Georgetown to claim the 2012 District 16-5A championship Friday night in front of a packed crowd at the Panther Gym. The Panthers' starting guard duo of seniors Ari Booth and Jasmyn Booker led the way with 13 points apiece.

The District title was the 22nd in program history and the sixth in the last eight seasons, as Pflugerville moves to 36-0 and stands 11-0 in District action with one league game left. It was the second win of the year over Georgetown, ranked No. 7 in the state. The Eagles are now 24-4 and 9-2 in the district.

The 36 consecutive wins ties the school record for most consecutive wins in a program history, matching the 36-0 start by the 1977 team which played Texas 3A division basketball.

Booker and Booth were the lone Panthers in double-figure scoring. Senior forward Itiana Taylor (four points) was stellar on the defensive end, finishing with eight rebounds, six steals and two blocks. Junior forward Diana Omozee pulled down six rebounds.

Pflugerville jumped out to a 28-15 halftime lead, thanks to six 3-pointers in the first half, three of which were made by Booth. Great Panther defensive pressure kept the Eagles at bay in the third quarter as P'ville led 36-28 entering the final eight minutes of play.

Relying on a trapping defense which caused four early fourth-period Georgetown turnovers, Pflugerville out-scored Georgetown 16-5 in the final period.

No Georgetown player was in double-figure scoring, as Katie Youngblood led the Eagles with nine points.

The Panthers will close out regular season play with its final District game on Tuesday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Leander High School for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The freshman Blue team closed out its season while posting a 24-20 win. The Blue team was led by Deja Coleman's 12 points.
