Posted Nov 16/12 - Pflugerville Varsity and JV advance to championship games of the Greater Austin Tournament on Saturday

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - The No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville varsity advanced to Saturday's Gold Division championship game two wins in the Greater Austin Tournament on Friday, beating Cedar Park 67-32 in the  quarterfinals before defeating Killeen 85-59 in the semifinals.

Head coach Nancy Walling's Panthers, now 6-0, will face either Rouse or Connally in Saturday's 4 p.m. championship game to be played at McNeill HS, host school of the tourney. Rouse and Connally meet in the other semifinal at 1 p.m. at McNeill.

The Panthers are the defending Greater Austin tourney champions. This is the fourth year of the tournament and Pflugerville has played in all four championship games. 

Pflugerville won two of the three championships to date, defeating Victoria East 57-19 last year. P'ville also won in 2009, besting Arlington Martin 54-46 in the championship. In 2011, the Panthers finished second, losing by one point (48-47) to Midland for the title.

In the Pflugerville-Cedar Park game, the Panthers dominated from the onset and led 43-4 at the half. The balanced scoring was led by senior forward Diana Omozee and senior guard Brenisha Payne who each finished with 10 points.

In the semifinal win over Killeen, Omozee led all scorers with 17 points. Junior guard Kalea King added 13 points and junior forward Jaden Sturm chipped in with 11 points. Leading 24-11 after the first quarter, the Panthers extended their lead to 20 points (46-26) at halftime.

PFLUGERVILLE JV TO PLAY IN GREATER AUSTIN CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY

The Pflugerville junior varsity won two games in Friday's JV division of the Greater Austin Tournament and advances to the championship game. The Panthers, now 6-0, will face Georgetown at 4 p.m. at McNeill HS for that divisional title.

On Friday, the Panthers defeated McNeill, 54-23 in the JV semifinals behind 17 points by sophomore guard Alyssa Washington and 12 points from freshman post Alexis Bryant. The Panthers started the day with a quarterfinal win over Vista Ridge (73-40) as Washington pumped in a game-high 15 points. Junior guard Kiara Sloan (12 points) and freshman guard Mikiel Burleson (10 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers.


The Pflugerville freshman advanced to the Gold Division of the freshman tourney but lost in the quarterfinals, 44-31 to Bowie.
