Posted Nov 27/12 - No. 2 ranked Pflugerville pushes record to 10-0 with 68-31 victory over Cedar Park; Panthers host 23rd annual Pflugerville Invitational next

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure paved the way for the state-ranked Pflugerville girls basketball team in its 68-31 win over Cedar Park in a non-district contest Tuesday at Cedar Park High School. The Panthers used a 50 percent shooting effort and forced 37 turnovers in the victory.

The win moves Pflugerville, ranked No. 2 in Texas 5A in this week's TABC/Tex Preps Basketball Magazine poll, to 10-0. Cedar Park is now 5-5.

The Panthers opened the game with a 15-3 run in the first four minutes of play, forcing six Cedar Park turnovers in that span. P'ville led at intermission, 39-13 behind senior forward Diana Omozee who had eight points and four steals in the first half. The Panthers distributed the ball well, dishing out 10 assists on their first 15 field goals.

Senior guard Brenisha Payne led the way wiht 11 points and a game-high and season-high six steals. Omozee finished with 10 points while senior guard Taylor Ross and junior guard Alyssa Echols each added eight points.

Pflugerville returns to play when it hosts the 23rd annual Pflugerville Invitational this Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 29-Dec.1 at Pflugerville High School. The three-day tourney features a varsity, junior varsity and freshman tournament. The Panthers will field two teams in the competitive varsity tourney as the P'ville JV will compete in the varsity division as well. Two other state-ranked teams - 5A power The Woodlands (ranked No. 14) and No.7 ranked Arlington Sequin from 4A. Check back on Wednesday, Nov. 28 for more bracket information.


Pflugerville JV and Freshman Gold teams post wins over Cedar Park

The Pflugerville junior varsity out-scored Cedar Park 29-17 in the second half en route to a 55-37 win Tuesday evening. The Panthers were led by 12 points from freshman post Alexis Bryant.

The freshman Gold team posted a three-point (38-35) win over Cedar Park, overcoming a 20-point deficit. Alasia Chester netted a game-high 20 points to lead P'ville.

The Panther JV, freshman Gold and freshman Blue teams will be in action Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 29-Dec. 1 as they host their own Pflugerville Invitational. (See note, above, on tourney.)
