Posted Nov 30/12 - Panthers move into Pflugerville Invitational championship game with 75-48 victory over Dallas Skyline; title game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas - In another balanced scoring triggered by a season-high 16 points from senior guard Amy Staha, the No. 2 state-ranked Pflugerville Panthers defeated Dallas Skyline, 75-48, Friday to move into the championship game of the Pflugerville Invitational.

The Panthers are 3-0 in their own tourney and stand 13-0 on the season. Pflugerville will face Dallas Skyline again in the championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Panther Gym. Skyline defeated Arlington Sequin Friday evening to advance out of the Gold Division loser's bracket and set up the rematch with Pflugerville.

Joining Staha in double-figure scoring were senior guards Brenisha Payne and Stephanie Onyeje along with junior guard Kalea King who each chipped in with 10 points each.

The Panthers took a 41-27 lead into halftime and extended that lead throughout the second half. Onyeje netted eight points in the third period as the Panthers outscored Skyline to open up a 61-36 lead.

The Pflugerville junior varsity team is playing in the Varsity Tournament, and that Panther squad posted a 59-48 decision over the Clear Lake varsity squad Friday. The Panther JV team, now 11-2 overall and 1-2 in the tourney, will meet Arlington Sequin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gold Division third-place game. In tourney pool play, the P'ville JV lost a closely contested 39-35 decision to the Arlington team.

Leading the way for the Panthers in the win over Clear Lake were the guard duo of freshman Mikiel Burleson (19 points) and sophomore Alyssa Washington (14 points). Freshman post Alexis Bryant added 13 points.
