Posted Feb 15/14 - Pflugerville moves into State playoff regional round; to face District opponent Stony Point on Feb. 18 in regional quarterfinals

The state-ranked Pflugerville girls basketball team continued its winning ways with a 49-43 UIL state playoff Area round victory over Humble Kingwood on February 14 in a game played in College Station. Head coach Nancy Walling's Panther squad moves to 32-4, and next faces District 16-5A opponent Stony Point (29-7) in regional quarterfinal action.

That Pville-Stony Point game takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at East View High School in Georgetown.

In the win over Kingwood, the Panthers went six-for-eight from the foul line in the final 51 seconds to ice the game, and were led by senior guard Alyssa Echols (14 points, six rebounds, five assists).

Pflugerville finished No. 15 in the final regular season TABC 5A poll, while Stony Point was 20th. The Panthers and Stony Point will square off for the fourth time this season. P'ville defeated the Tigers, 62-49 in the title game of the Austin Bowie Tournament on November 16 before Stony Point earned two close victories in District play by a total of seven points - a 73-69 decision at Stony Point on Dec. 3 and a 67-64 contest on Jan. 14 at Pflugerville. Pflugerville finished 9-3 in District action, while Stony Point and Cedar Ridge went 10-2 atop the district.
