Campbellsville University left fielder was named the Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Ponich batted .412 last week with a pair of home runs and five runs batted in. The Kelowna, British Columbia, senior, added 10 runs, two doubles and a triple while helping the Tigers to a 4-3 week.

Ponich hit safely in all but one of Campbellsville's games during the week. He blasted his third home run of the season in the Tigers' final game of the week in a 14-4 win over Berea (Ky.) College on Sunday.

He also had 11 walks during the week and 28 total bases as CU's leadoff hitter.

Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Derek Cape hurled a complete-game no-hitter against Davenport (Mich.) University to earn the Pitcher of the Week honor. He struck out six and allowed just two base runners -- one with a walk and the other on an error -- in the Blue Raiders' 5-0 win Sunday. Cape concluded the week with a 1.64 earned run average.

Campbellsville (7-6) is scheduled to play Missouri Baptist College on Tuesday at St. Catharine College. The Tigers will open Mid-South Conference play with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. against the University of Cumberlands.
