Farming lost a tough-luck 2-1 decision on Sunday, in an exciting ballgame played at Meire Grove.

For the first six innings, both teams managed only goose eggs on the scoreboard.  Brad Mergen went the first six, giving up just two hits and recording 13 strikeouts.  Brad did not walk anyone either.

In the top of the seventh, Farming scratched out the game's first run.  Brad led off with a double to left.  Ian Hoffarth attempted to sacrifice the runner to third.  However the Meire Grove fielder airmailed the throw, allowing Brad to score and putting Ian on second.  The Flames were unable to do further damage.

In the bottom of the eighth, Meire Grove scored an unearned run off Flames reliever Aaron Nett.  Aaron is back for a few months before he heads back to Rome, and it's good to have him back in the fold.  Aaron pitched well in his first stint of the season, going two innings giving up one earned run.

In the ninth, Farming loaded the bases but were unable to score.  In the bottom of the inning, Meire Grove's lead off hitter hit a homerun to left to end the ballgame.

Lake Henry visits our ballpark next Sunday, July 1, for a 1:30pm tilt.  Both clubs ar 5-5 in the SCL South, tied for second place.  Sunday's game is a big one -- a second place finish would mean a home playoff game for the first time in awhile.  Come on out on Sunday and cheer the club on.
