Posted Jul 16/12 - Flames 5, Richmond 4

Farming used a big inning and some timely pitching to hand Richmond only its second loss of the season, 5-4, on a hot Sunday afternoon in Farming.  The largest crowd of the year was on hand, with cars filling the parking lot and several more parked along Highway 42.  After the game, Terry Schleper and Eddie Schleper were both inducted into the Farming Hall of Fame.

The Flames trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, and had only two hits up until that time.  Zach Posterick led off with a single, and Craig Klein did the same, with Zach taking third.  Craig stole second base, and Chris Wehseler walked to load the bases.  Greg Holthaus drill a two run double off the left field fence, just missing a grand slam and putting runners on second and third.  Brad Mergen lined a shot right to the third basemen for the first out, before Aaron Nett delivered a two-run single.  The Flames batted around in the inning.

With the scored tied in the bottom of the eighth, Greg led off with a walk.  Brad sacrificed him to second.  Craig Rausch reached on an infield hit, and Greg scored with the third baseman's throw sailed past the first baseman.

Four pitchers got some work in for Farming.  Brent Mergen pitched the first three innings, followed by Aaron Nett, Craig Rausch, and Brad Mergen.  Brad got the win for the Flames.

Next up: the SCL South Playoffs.  On Sunday, we travel to Lake Henry for a 1:30pm tilt against the Lakers.  Let's pack their place next Sunday and cheer on the ballclub.
