2003: Started 33 out of 34 games for the Varsity as a freshman.
2004: Started in all 41 games for the Chargers leading the team with a .417 batting average. He emerged as a top local prospect with his outstanding defensive and offensive play in the State Tournament. He represented Team Tennessee in the sophomore Sun Belt in Oklahoma. Gunter was elected 1st Team All District, 1st Team All Region, Commercial Appeal Best of Preps, and Honorable Mention All State.
2005: Started in 32 games at short stop and made 7 appearances on the mound. During his junior season, Gunter missed 9 games due to an ankle injury, but still put up impressive numbers. At the plate, Gunter batted .371 and led the team with 7 homeruns. On the mound he posted a 2-0 record with a .40 era. Gunter was again chosen to represent Tennessee at the 2005 Junior Sunbelt. At the Sun Belt, Gunter electrified the crowd, team mates, and opposing players with his outstanding play both offensively and defensively. His outstanding performance made him a unanimous choice for the tournaments Most Valuable Player. At this level of play, the award was a huge honor. Gunter was All District, All Region, and All State Honorable Mention.
2006 Expectations: Going into his senior year, Gunter is regarded as one of the top shortstops in the southeast. He has already signed his letter of intent to play for Coach Daron Shoenrock at the University of Memphis. He will be looked at again to be a huge factor for the success of the 2006 Chargers. This season, Gunter is expected to give the Chargers quality innings on the mound.
