With only seven months until the uvic baseball club was supposed to take the field for their inaugural season, the program has taken a crippling blow in regards to their expected starting date in September. Audits performed in the athletics and recreation department have caused the staff to downsize the amount of sport clubs currently offered at the university, and baseball being the newest, has had its sport club status revoked. This could be a very temporary development, but any prospective student or player that has expressed interest in playing for the ball club or attending the university is urged to contact us immediately. The outlook is not good for our anticipated start in September, but the staff of the baseball club is working vigorously to have this program reinstated as soon as possible.
Please check the website for updates, or email us any questions or concerns to uvicbaseball@shaw.ca. Any potential players will be contacted as quickly as possible by the coaching staff, and any fees paid for application purposes can be refunded in full if requested.
I am deeply sorry for any players who have committed to the school and I am doing everything in my power to get the program's club status back, but for the time being, if you are a prospective player, you should look into other options for the 2009 season.
