Drew Dull-Head Coach/Catchers/Pitchers/Hitters

Coach Dull is entering his 5th year as head coach at East Forsyth.  Previously, Coach Dull was an assistant coach at West Brunswick High School for 6 years.  Coach Dull worked with the pitchers and catchers at West Brunswick and was head JV coach for 4 years.  Coach Dull has coached players who went on to play at East Carolina, NC State, Gardner Webb, North Carolina Central, North Carolina State A&T, Wake Forest, Elon, Campbell, Young Harris, Virginia, Presbyterian, Piedmont International, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Asheville, Winston Salem State, Surry Community College, Brunswick Community College, Southeastern Community College, Louisburg College, Winthrop, Wingate, Mars Hill and USC-Aiken.

Coach Dull graduated from East Forsyth in 2004 after playing 4 years of baseball, he went to Methodist University to play baseball.  Coach Dull graduated from Methodist University in 2009 with a B.S. in Math Education.  Coach Dull has a younger brother who is a relief pitcher for the Oakland Athletics and holds numerous pitching records at East Forsyth.  Coach Dull's mother taught and coached softball and volleyball at East Forsyth for 28 years and his father is an East Forsyth alum as well.

2017 Season, Coach Dull led the Eagles to a 19-7 record while winning the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference and Conference Tournament.  The Eagles defeated AL Brown in the playoffs and was defeated 3-2 by Richmond County in round 2 of the playoffs.  

In the 2017 season, Coach Dull led the Eagles to a 21-7 record and winning the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference tournament.  The Eagles defeated Olympic in round 1 of the state playoffs and then fell to South Caldwell 8-7 on a walk off homerun.

The 2018 season was the best Coach Dull has ever expereinced thus far. He led the Eagles to a 23-7 record while winning the Central Piedmont Conference and the Conference Tournament.  The Eagles received a first round bye and defeated a very tough Richmond County team in the 2nd round 5-2. Round 3 saw Hickory Ridge come to Kernersville where the Eagles won 4-2. In round four, the Eagles saw a familiar foe in Reagan and defeated the Raiders 3-0 and advanced to the Western Final for the first time since 2012.  The Eagles fell in the Western Final to Ardrey Kell 2 games to none (8-1, 7-6)

The 2019 season saw high expectation but they were not met.  The Eagles lost several one or two run ball games that could have gone either way, but eventually did not go the Eagles way.  Though the Eagles finished 12-14, the Eagles finished the season strong down the stretch winning 8 of their last 13 games.  The Eagles lost to Lake Norman in the first round of the playoffs 4-3, after leading for over 5 innings of the ball game.  The 2019 group saw the most college baseball players ever move on from East Forsyth (6 signees and 5 D1).

Bubba Smith-Assistant Coach/Hitting/Infielders

Coach Bubba Smith is entering his 6th year with the Eagles.  Coach Smith worked with hitters on an 2017 Eagle team that went 21-7 and increasing the overall team batting average to over 300.  Coach Smith grew up in California and went to play college baseball at Illinois under coach Augie Garrido.  At Illinois, Coach Smith hit .363 with 29 HR and 101 RBI over his 2 years as a starter.  He was 14-9 as a pitcher with a 4.47 ERA and struck out 114 hitters in 157 innings pitched.  Coach Smith was drafted in the 26th round by the Seattle Mariners.   Coach Smith reached as high as AAA with the Rangers bubba hitting.jpgorganization and the Diamondbacks organization and also played professionally in Mexico and Korea.  During his professional career, he hit .271 with 543 HR (230 Minor League HR, 243 HR in Mexican Winter and Summer Leagues, 70 in Korea) , 794 RBI and 1102 hits over 1194 games.  Coach Smith resides in Kernersville with his wife Kim and two sons, Tanner and Chase.

 

Shane Dickerson-Head JV Coach/Assistant Coach/Infielders    

Coach Shane Dickerson is entering his 5th year coaching at East Forsyth.  His 2016 JV team went 15-3 and finished 2nd in the Piedmont Triad 4A conference.  His 2017 JV team went 17-3 and was Co-Conference Champions in the Piedmont Triad 4A.  His 2018 went 13-5-1 and finished 2nd in the Central Piedmont conference. Coach Dickerson graduated from East Forsyth in 2010 and was also a member of the 2010 team that was state runner-up.  Coach Dickerson was a main piece for the 2010 team along with Coach Dunlap.  Coach Dickerson pitched in the state championship and also caught Coach Schultz in game 1 of the State Championship.  Coach Dickerson was a 3 year varisity pitcher for the Eagles and went on to attend the University of North Carolina.  Coach Dickerson is 2nd all time in apperances, games started, innings pitched, and wins at East Forsyth.  Coach Dickerson graduated from UNC in 2014 and now works for Ridge Care and resides in Kernersville.

Coach Dunlap is entering his 5th year coaching at East Forsyth.  Coach Dunlap works with all of the Eagles outfielders and during games assists on the JV and works with all of the Eagles hitters as well.  Coach Dunlap is a member of the 2019 Class of the East Forsyth Athletics Hall of Fame. Coach Dunlap graduated from East Forsyth in 2011 and was a member of the 2010 Eagle team that was the state runner-up.  Coach Dunlap led off for the Eagles all 4 years and manned centerfield.  Coach Dunlap moved on to play baseball at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and graduated in December 2015.  Coach Dunlap holds several single season and career records at East Forsyth such as: runs scored (season, career), batting average (season), homeruns (career), hits (career), at bats (career), doubles (career), RBI's (career) and 2nd in all time batting average.  Coach Dunlap was married to his wife Emily in 2018 and now works in Rural Hall and resides in Winston Salem.

Coach Nester is entering his 1st year coaching with the Eagles. Coach Nester will work with all infielders and during games will monitor the bullpen as well as help hitters and fielders. Coach Nester graduated from East Forsyth in 2014. Coach Nester played baseball and basketball at East Forsyth. After graduation from East Forsyth, he attended Catawba College. At Catawba, Coach Nester had a career batting average of .299 with 29 doubles, 5 tripes, 3 home runs, 81 RBI's and 24 stolen bases. Also while at Catawba, Coach Nester helped take the Indians to an apperance in the Division II College World Series.  Coach Nester now resides in Kernersville, NC.
