Supers 9 Yankees 0

Posted May 12, 2011

The 2011 season started off with a bang for the Canora Supers with a 9-0 victory over the Yorkton Yankees on a cold, rainy night in Yorkton.

The Yankees honoured former player Ryan Neal (who recently passed away) by playing the first defensive inning with second base open. 2nd base was Ryan's position, and it was a fitting tribute to a classy, well respected person. The Yankees also had Ryan in the leadoff spot in the batting order, and he was intentionally walked to start off the bottom of the first inning. He was an amazing person and will be missed by all.

Derek Palagian threw 5 shutout innings for the Supers while giving up just two hits. He did not walk anyone and recorded 6 strikeouts while picking up the victory. Travis Fogg tossed the final two innings, giving up no hits while striking out three.

Offensively for the Supers, Zach Rakochy, Ryan Coleman and Adam McTavish all recorded two hits. McTavish and Coleman each had 2 rbi's as well. Trevor Latham and Ryan Kitchen chipped in with one hit. Rakochy and Latham both scored 2 runs, while cleanup hitter Kelly McTavish scored a team leading 3 runs.

The Supers next game will be the home opener on Tuesday, May 17 against the Yorkton Jr Cardinals. Game time is 6:15 at Al Sapieha Field.
