Supers Destroy Reds 21-0
Posted June 5, 2011
The Canora Supers extended their winning streak to three games as they pounded out 19 hits while scoring 21 runs in a 21-0 drubbing of the visiting Swan River Reds.
Starting pitcher Derek Palagian went the distance on the mound, and silenced the Reds bat completely, recording a no-hitter. His no hit bid appeared to be over in the last inning as a Reds player hit a hard ground ball into right field, but right fielder Evan Rostotski saved the day by quickly fielding the ball and gunning the runner out at first base for the 9-3 put out, preserving Palagian's no hit bid. The only offense the Reds could muster was a walk, and reaching base on 2 errors. Palagian also recorded nine strike outs in picking up his second win of the season (2-0).
With the sticks, seven of the nine Supers players had multi-hit days, including catcher Zach Rakochy with a 3 for 5 effort with a double, a stolen base, 2 runs scored, and 5 rbi's. Second baseman Graham Lamb was 3 for 4 with a walk, 2 runs scored and 2 rbi's. Derek Palagian had a great day at the plate going 4 for 5 with 3 runs and 2 rbi's. Clean-up hitter and centerfielder Ryan Kitchen padded his stats going 3 for 4 with a walk, 3 runs, and 3 rbi's. Carson Dennis, Adam Chernoff, and Travis Fogg also had stellar days at the plate with 2 hits each. Ryan Coleman had a single and 3 runs scored, while Rostotski drew 3 walks and scored 2 runs.
The Supers record improves to 4-2 on the season, with their next game on Thursday, June 9 in Swan River against the Reds. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 Saskatchewan time.
