Supers Extend Winning Streak to 6

Posted June 14, 2011

The Canora Supers rolled into Yorkton on Tuesday night, looking to give the Yorkton Jr. Cardinals their first loss in SESBL league play. It was a warm, muggy night, with a light drizzle throughout the game. But when all was said and done, the Supers ended up raining on the Jr. Cardinals parade as they came out on top with a 6-3 victory.

Travis Fogg went the distance on the mound for the Supers, scattering 8 hits while issuing 2 walks and a hit batter. He gave up 3 runs (2 earned), and struck out five. He pitched well under damp conditions, as it had little to no effect on his performance3. His record improves to 2-1 on the season.

The Supers only had 6 hits on the night, but also reached base on 3 walks and were also hit by 4 pitches. Ryan Kitchen lead the way offensively with a clutch 2 rbi single in the top of the 3rd inning to give the Supers a 3-2 lead. He also had another single and a run scored as he went 2 for 3 on the night. First baseman Kelly McTavish had 2 rbi's as well for the Supers, as one was an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning to give the Supers some breathing room. DH Darcy Blommaert had a textbook push bunt single up the first base line, and a stolen base. Carson Dennis was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run, and Trevor Latham was 1 for 3 with a single, a stolen base, and a run scored. Greg Andreychuk was hit by 2 pitches, scored 2 runs, and had a sacrifice fly to round out the offense for the Supers.

With the damp field, the Supers had a couple of minor injuries as Adam McTavish and Evan Rostotski both pulled muscles in their legs while running the bases.

Defensively, the Supers have been playing very well for the past few games, and hope to keep it up going into the final stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.

With the win, the Supers record improves to 7 wins and 2 losses. Their next game is on Friday, June 17 at the friendly confines of Al Sapieha Field as they welcome the Yorkton Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:15, with Darcy Blommaert scheduled to start on the mound for the Supers.
