Supers Streak Snapped at Six

Posted June 17, 2011

The weather network called for rain, rain, and more rain for Friday, June 17 for most of Saskatchewan. Up until about 5:30 p.m, Canora received just a trace of precipitation, so the baseball gods allowed a game to be played at Al Sapieha Field between the Supers and the Yorkton Yankees. The forecasted rain eventually did show up, but unfortunately the Supers did not, as the Yankees came out on top with a 7-1 victory (5 innings due to rain), snapping the Supers win streak at 6 games.

Darcy Blommaert started on the mound for the Supers, and did well through the first 4 innings as he only gave up 3 hits and a pair of unearned runs. Unfortunately in the 5th inning, the Yankees were able to put up 5 runs on 4 hits, a walk and an error to put the game out of reach. Blommaert finished the game with 5 strikeouts, 7 hits, an 4 earned runs.  Trevor Latham pitched the final 2 outs of the 5th to get out of the jam.

The Supers were only able to get one hit off of Yankees starting pitcher Jeremy Johnson, as Adam McTavish singled home Graham Lamb for the only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Derek Palagian contributed with a walk and a stolen base to round out the Supers offence.

Defensively, catcher Zach Rakochy was able to throw out a couple of baserunners at 2nd base, while center fielder Clayton Malanowich made a nice running catch.

With the loss, the Supers fall to 7 wins and 3 losses on the season. Their next game will be an exhibition game with the Yorkton Orioles on Sunday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m in Yorkton at Jubilee diamond #2. This will be a good chance for some of the Supers who have missed some games to get a few more at bats and innings pitched for the season. The next regular season game will be on Thursday, June 23 as the Supers travel to Yorkto to take on the Parkland Padres. Game time is 8:00 p.m at Jubilee Park
