Supers Behind the 8 Ball
Posted July 19, 2011
The Canora Supers got off to a rocky start in their quest of an Southeast Senior Baseball League championship, falling 9-3 to the Willowbrook Royals Thursday, July 19th at Al Sapieha Field. After falling behind 2-0 in the top half of the first, the Supers took the lead with one swing of the bat as right fielder Evan Rostotski sent a rocket over the right field fence for a 3 run homer to take the lead 3-2 going into the 2nd. But the wheels fell off at that point, as the Royals capitalized on some fielding miscues to put up 5 runs in the top of the 2nd, and they cruised from that point on.
Travis Fogg piched the entire game for the Supers, and took the loss despite pitching well. Despite giving up 7 runs (mostly unearned) in the first two innings, Fogg sailed through the Royals lineup before giving up two more runs in the top of the 7th.
The Supers only managed 5 hits off of Royals pitcher Greg Pelechaty, with Rostotski leading the way with a 3 run homer, and a single. Darcy Blommaert had a double, while Graham Lamb and Trevor Latham each picked up singles.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Thursday, July 21 at 6:15 in Willowbrook. Darcy Blommaert is scheduled to start for the Supers, as it is do or die now.
