Royals advance to SSBL final!
Posted August 8, 2011
The Royals took on the Guns this past weekend in the best of three SSBL semi final. And as all the games with the Guns have been this season, these three were extremely close again. The first game saw Paul Strueby and Josh Marshall engage in a pitcher's duel with the Guns coming out on top with a 2-1 victory. Paul pitched well and the defense was great not making an error but Marshall kept the Royals bats at bay when he needed to.
Games two and three were on Sunday. In the first game the Royals won by a score of 4-3. Bevan Ledingham threw a complete game to earn the win. The Royals won in dramatic fashion as they were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the seventh when they loaded the bases. Kyle Yarskie then hit a walk off bases clearing double to win the game 4-3. The defense again did not make an error and the bats were decent with eight hits.
Game three was another tight one as the Royals lead 1-0 going into the seventh inning when they were able to push three more runs across to win the game by a score of 4-0. Mathew Strubey threw a complete game shutout for the win. The defense was awesome again not making an error and thebats had 9 hits. Congrats to the Royals for advancing to the league final which begins on Tuesday the 9th against the Stallions in a rematch of last year. Also, congrats to the Guns on a very well played series and a good season! It was the third year in a row we played them in the playoffs. We also played them six times in the last two weeks with each team winning three games. Every pitcher in the series threw a complete game and both teams defense was good as well.
