Stallions down Royals
Posted August 12, 2011
It went the full five games and the Royals came up just short. The first game saw Bevan Ledingham get the start for the Royals. The second inning saw the Stallions string a few hits together and they were able to push four runs across to make the score 6-2 after two. Luke Strueby pitched the final two innings and the Royals were able to push a couple more across, however, the score ended up 7-4 for the Stallions, forcing a game five.
Game five saw Mathew Strueby start for the Royals. The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead as Braden Bauml singled home Curtis Strueby in the first inning. That was all the offense the Royals would be able to come up with in this one as the Stallions then shut the door with good pitching and defense. The Stallions answered with one of their own in the first and the game stayed tied until the fifth inning where two infield singles scored a run. That was all the Stallions would need as they hung on for a 2-1 game five victory. It was Mathew Strueby's third complete game in a one week span. In those three games he gave up only two runs. Also Marty Yeager displayed unbelievable character as he caught every single one of those games except one.
It was our thirteenth game in twelve days and the team has earned some time off. A lot of the boys are banged up and need some time off before Westerns.
And lastly, Congratulations to the Saskatoon Stallions on a great final series. They never quit and came back. They are very deserving of the league title! Good luck at junior nationals!
