Vernon downs Royals; Royals end up third at Westerns
Posted August 29, 2011
The final round robin game was against the Vernon Dbacks. The Royals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a Dallas Hucul homerun. Vernon tied it at 3 after two innings. After that starter Taylor Kjargaard settled in and pitched well not allowing a hit until the fifth inning. The Royals were up 4-3 in the sixth inning when Vernon scored four to make it a 7-4 ball game which is the way it ended up. Mathew Strueby finished the game for the Royals. The Royals had 10 hits with Dallas Hucul, Craig Hucul, and Curtis Strueby leading the way with two apiece.
The Royals still had a chance to make the final. Manitoba needed to beat Trail in the final round robin game. This was not the case as Trail defeated them by a score of 1-0 and then by a 4-3 score in the final. After all was said and done the Royals finished in third place. Fantastic season boys!
