Posted April 10, 2012

THE CRHS COUGAR TEAMS WIN DISTRICT AGAIN AT RIVER RIDGE!  The defending 19-5A Champions successfully repeated with an outstanding poised effort.

The girls won by 47 strokes over Spring Branch Memorial.  The Cougars shot 616 with a 307-309.  Memorial won 2nd place with a 663 and will also represent District 19-5A at Regionals as the runner-up.  Katy Taylor finished one stroke back of going to Regionals with a 664 and Seven Lakes finished one more back with a 665.

Abby Newton successfully defended her title with a 70-70 to win by 7 strokes over Lizzy Doykan of Memorial.  CRHS Cougar Sophomore Kennedy Ishee won 3rd place with a 73-80.  Megan Webster finished in 5th place with an outstanding 78-80.  Morgan Galloway shot 79 the second day to finish in 12th place and Kirsten Hensley finished in 14th place with a 87-80.  The Cougars had to drop an outstanding score of 80 on the second day as all five Cougars shot 80 or better.  Freshman Sarah Yi finished in 19th place as a medalist by shooting 93-81.  Junior Elena Hubbard added an 88 for a fine tournament showing.

The boys won an outstanding battle against Seven Lakes by beating them by 6 strokes.  It was tied heading into the final nine of Parkland on the final day.  The Cougars opened a 5 shot lead on the first day with a fine 296.  SLHS was next at 301 and Memorial next at 309.  Just like the Masters in Augusta, the tournament does not begin until the final day nine holes on Parkland.  The boys showed great determination to play mentally tough in the clutch.  Memorial finished in 3rd place with a 620, Strake Jesuit 4th with a 625 and Katy in 5th place with a 628.  There were 10 district teams in the fight for the Championship.

Sophomore Michael Cotton finished in 3rd place with a 74-73.  Junior Matt McClung shot 72-77 for 7th place.  Sophomore J.D. Kiesewetter shot 76-76 for 10th.  Freshman Kyle Rogers shot 74-79 for 12th place.  Senior Dylan Reynolds shot 77-78 for 15th place.

The Cougar Second Team had some good scores as well.  Low scores for them were:  Senior Taylor Engel 77, Freshman Kyle Engel 78, Sophomore Tommy McLaughlin 79,  Junior Alec Keiser 80, Sophomore Michael Chittwood 80, Junior Kyle Pettit 83, and Sophomre Nick Brown 84.

Both boys & girls have qualified for the Region III-5A Tournament at Eagle Pointe on April 16-19.  They both are looking for a return trip to the State Tournament in Austin.  Two teams make it out of the 4 Texas Regions to the State Tournament.  "Grind It Out" and "You Can Do It".  Congrats to both teams by defending their District Championship this year at River Ridge!!!!!!
