Supers Lose 2012 Opener 3-1 to Royals

On May 17, the Supers ventured into Willowbrook for their opening game of the season, looking to start the season strong. Despite a good pitching performance from Derek Palagian, and solid team defence, the Supers just could not muster enough offence and in the end fell to the Willowbrook Royals 3-1.

If the fans were looking for lots of hitting today, unfortunately neither team provided much as the pitching for both teams kept the respective offences in check. Derek Palagian gave up only two base hits over 6 innings, but Willowbrook was able to take advantage of their opportunitites when they were presented. The Supers only managed 4 hits off of Royals pitchers Bobby Rodger and Tanner Denesowych. Carson Dennis lead the way with a double and a run scored, while Ryan Kitchen provided an rbi single. Derek Palagian singled and Kody Rock, making his Supers debut, chipped in with a single. Beau Swan and Jordan Haas also made their Supers debut.

The winning pitcher was Bobby Rodger, while Tanner Denesowych recorded a save. Derek Palagian took the loss, despite keeping the game close.

With the loss, the Supers fall to 0-1 on the season. The next games for Canora will be a double header in Yorkton next Wednesday, May 23. Game 1 will be at 6:15, when they visit the Jr. Cardinals, while game 2 is at 8:30 when they visit the Yorkton Yankees under the lights.

The future looks bright in Canora as there are a lot of good young ball players ready to step in and play some solid baseball for the foreseeable future.
