SURGE OWNER EXCITES AND INSPIRES AT CAREER DAY

If better is possible then good is not enough.” This was the message of the St. Louis Surge Owner, Khalia Collier, as she walked into Jennings Junior High School May 16 as she prepared to give a speech to seventh and eighth grade students during Career Day. This event was for the entire student body.

Red polo shirts flooded the cafeteria and gymnasium as kids flowed in from the hallways. After two speakers Collier stood to speak and captured all of the students’ attention from the beginning. She brought an enormous amount of energy to her speech, which transferred to the children. All students were interactive and very receptive of her message, which was about passion, dedication and hard work.

Now is the time. As students you cannot afford to slack off in school because in the end you will only be hurting yourselves,” said Collier. “Don’t cheat yourself because you want to make it to the finish line,”

Collier told students to follow what they love and give 110% to their passion. She also explained the importance of giving back to the community to help the students understand that when one is blessed with great things it is their responsibility to help others who may not be as fortunate.

At the conclusion of the speech, Collier sat down to a loud round of applause and standing ovation.
