The Rally Cap Program is an initiative to enhance players' and coaches' first experience with the game. The program helps teams teach players the five FUNdamentals of baseball in a fun and safe environment.
The Rally Cap Program is targeted at kids aged 4 – 7 and designed by Baseball Canada. The goals of the Rally Cap Program are:
• to create an environment in which children and adults can have fun with baseball
• teach baseball skills, rules, and strategy to our players
• model and teach competitiveness with an emphasis on good sportsmanship and self-esteem
NEW: The Toronto Blue Jays have become the National Sponsor of Baseball Canada’s Rally Cap Program and have made a monetary, resource and apparel commitment. The Blue Jays are providing $5,000 which will go towards the hiring of a Rally Cap Coordinator, Baseball Manitoba will use the existing Sport Development Coordinator position to fulfill this role. Also, the Blue Jays will be providing re-vamped Report Cards and newly designed hats for players and coaches. As such, the colored hat system for ranking players is no longer being used.
Even though Springfield Minor Baseball is part of the Red River Valley Baseball League, we run our own in-house Rally Cap program playing on local Springfield diamonds to minimize travel. In addition to the regular season games, Red River Valley Baseball organizes a fun event called the Rally Cap Jamboree which is mandatory participation. This is typically played on a weekend in May at the Gateway Rec Centre diamonds Details to be confirmed.
Parent participation and volunteering are crucial for this level to be successful. Parents, please be sure to communicate requests for car pooling, coaches, players, siblings to be on the same team when registering. We will try to accommodate requests as best as possible. For players that are 7 yrs old and demonstrate some skill, age advancing to Grand Slam may be a consideration. Parents, please complete the separate online form at the same time as registration for this assessment to be done. Requests AFTER registration will not be accommodated as teams will have been assembled.
Playing season is the same as the other levels, starts beginning of May (weather permitting) and plays through to end of June. Last game is set aside for all Rally Cap teams to attend a wind-up.
