On Thursday June 14, the Supers travelled to Yorkton to face the Parkland Padres. The game was originally scheduled for 8:00 under the lights, but unfortunately the Yorkton Cardinals needed the main diamond to play a makeup game with the Melville Millionaires. Thus the game was moved to a 6:15 start at diamond #2 at Jubilee Park.
At the start of the game, the skies were quite dark, and there was a heavy drizzle which delayed the start of the game by about 10 minutes. Soon after, the dark, threatening clouds blew away, and it turned out to be a great night for baseball.
The Supers started the top of the first by scoring three runs on just one hit and two costly errors by Padres fielding. In the top of the 2nd, two more Supers hits and two more Padres errors led to 5 more runs to give the Supers plenty of breathing space as the Supers coasted to a 12-3 victory.
Leading the way offensively for the Supers was Zach Rakochy and Ryan Kitchen. Rakochy was stellar at the dish, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, two rbi's and four runs scored. Kitchen was 2 for 4 with with a stolen base and a game high four rbi's. Mark Cuthill was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Trevor Latham was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Greg Andreychuk was 1 for 4 with an rbi double and a run scored. Also scoring runs for the Supers were Myk Rostotski, Carson Dennis, and Jeff Bahrey, making his first appearance with the Supers in almost two years.
Derek Palagian started on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up three earned runs on eight hits, three walks and six strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season. Evan Rostotski pitched a scoreless seventh inning to finish the game.
With the win, the Supers record improves to 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie. The next game will be Friday, June 15 as the Supers travel to Langenburg to face the Indians. Former Langenburg resident Travis Fogg is scheduled to start pitching against his home town team. Game time is 6:15 PM.
