Supers let Glorious Chance Slip Away in Langenburg
Posted June 23, 2012
Baseball is a game of taking advantage of opportunities presented. On Friday, June 22 in Langenburg, the Supers offence produced 9 hits, 4 walks, a hit batter, and on two occasions reached base via an error. However, all the Supers could produce was a measly three runs as they fell 4-3 to the hometown Langenburg Indians.
The Supers stranded eleven baserunners, nine of which were in scoring position. That has to be close to a record, as fourteen is the most runners a team can strand in scoring position in a seven inning game. To say the Supers were not clutch on this day is a massive understatement. In each inning, at least one runner was stranded in scoring position. Indians pitcher Tyrel Thorpe and his defence were able to limit the damage, and come out on top.
Travis Fogg started on the mound for the Supers, allowing four runs, six hits, three walks over six innings. Although Fogg did not have his best stuff, he was able to keep the Supers in the game. The Indians hitters made solid contact for much of the evening, but seemed to hit the balls right at Supers defenders quite regularly.
Offensively, the Supers just could not get the hits when they needed them. Ryan Kitchen, Greg Andreychuk and Derek Palagian each had two hits, while Clayton Malanowich and Evan Rostotski each had one hit. Jeff Bahrey produced the only extra base hit on the evening as he doubled to lead off the top of the fifth inning. Scoring runs for the Supers were Malanowich, Bahrey, and Palagian. RBI's were produced from Andreychuk, Palagian, and Trevor Latham.
With the loss, the Supers fall to .500 with 4 wins, 4 losses, and a tie. Their next scheduled game is Monday, June 25 in Yorkton vs the Yankees at 8 PM. The Supers will try to play in Swan River on Sunday, June 24 if enough players can attend.
