Cock Slapped

Posted July 19, 2012

Everything was looking good for the Dbacks to start.  The infield was terrible, the starting pitcher didn't warm up,  both teams were late, first play of the game was a god awful call at first.  There was no way we could lose with that start.

But then it happened.  The Dbacks were rolling along nicely through 4 up 1-0.  With their starter tired due to a strict workout regimen of beer drinking and not practicing;  In came the big lefty closer for a nice easy 3 inning save.  Only problem was Aren Nelsen showed up and could only record one out mixed in with multiple walks and hits.  He wasn't helped much from our defense however as they were likely distracted by his Mark's model good looks.  By the time the inning was over we were down 6-1.  We gave up another next inning.  We could not hit on the night yet again; continuing our mid summer slump at the plate.

Scooter made his return to the mound after a long absence(We had to wait for that home run to land before we could let him pitch again).  He looked good getting some ground ball outs and somewhat making up for his earlier indiscretions.  Early in the game he made an amazing diving stop to save a run.  Sadly he was confused as he was supposed to be coaching third base and getting out of the way of overthrows.  Later he moved to coach first and got in a yelling match with the bench and promptly walked off the field.  Management was quoted as saying "Rookie coaches are like rookie players; they make stupid mistakes sometimes. We just hope he learns from it and never coaches a base again. "

After the game the big lefty closer went on the 30 day DL with an upper, lower, outside, and inside injury.  He later offered to coach third base.  The team is currently looking into the league insurance policy to see if he would still be covered when he: pulled a hammy, broke an ankle, tore an ACL, etc, while jogging slowly over to the coaches box.

We drank, ate many a chicken and called it a night.

Next up a DH at 3&6 on Saturday against the Longhorns.

MVP - Kennedy                                Vadge - Scooter (New points leader)
