Supers Season Over - Fall to Royals 10-7

Posted July 31, 2012

The Canora Supers up and down season finally came to an end on Monday night as the Willowbrook Royals put up seven runs in the top of the sixth inning in a 10-7 victory, eliminating the Supers from the playoffs in front of a large crowd at Al Sapieha Field.

Starting pitcher Derek Palagian was the victim of poor run support all season long, as every time he pitched the offence would not come through. However on this night, the offence was able to get some hits and take advantage of a couple errors. After four innings, the score was 5-1 Supers, and the game was seemingly under control. The Royals then put up two runs in the top of the fifth, and then the wheels came off in the top of the sixth as the Royals took advantage of some walks, hit batters and several hits to put the game out of reach. The Supers rallied in the bottom of the seventh, getting the tying run to first base, but that was as close as they came as the Royals held on for the win.

Offensively, the Supers managed seven runs, on seven hits. Zach Rakochy and Derek Palagian each had a double and a single to lead the way. Rakochy also had an rbi and two runs, while Palagian had two rbi's. Carson Dennis had a double and a run, Evan Rostotski had a single, a sac fly and a run, while Greg Andreychuk had 2 runs scored and an rbi. Kody Rock was hit by a pitch twice and scored a run.

After four innings, Derek Palagian had only given up one run on one hit, and was throwing well. In the top of the fifth, he gave up two runs on two walks, a single, and a double. In the top of the sixth, Palagian ran out of gas. His final pitching stats were 5 1/3 innings, 6 hits, 3 walks, and 6 earned runs to take the loss. Kody Rock came into pitch without proper warmup from third base, and the Royals scored a few more runs.

The loss signalled the end of the Supers 2012 season. The season looked extremely promising in April as several young players from the area had indicated interest in suiting up for the team. However, several of them simply did not show up, forcing the team to scramble for players on several occassions. For the team to continue into 2013 and beyond, some new blood will be required.

The Supers would like to thank all of their sponsors and fans for all of their support this season. We hope to see everyone back at the park in 2013
