Royals settle for second
Posted August 6, 2012
The Royals travelled to Yorkton for the Senior AA Provincial Championship this past weekend. In their first game they faced off against the Lloydminster Twins in a rematch of last year's final. The Royals were down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth when they erupted for 6 runs on the strength of a Brent Puetz three run bomb. Dean Jaeb then settled in and threw a complete game for the win. Next action for the Royals was against the Saskatoon Stallions and what a game it was. The lead changed hands a total of five times and the score ended up in the Royals favor beating the Stallions 10-9. Braden Bauml had the walk off single in the bottom of the seventh. Colin Bauml threw four innings for the Royals and Josh Cote threw three in relief to get the victory. Brent Puetz had another bomb and Braden Bauml had three hits to pace the offense. The Royals then took on the Holdfast Trappers and won by a score of 4-2. Brent Puetz and Braden Bauml had homeruns and Shaun Strueby had two hits to lead the offense. Paul Strueby pitched a complete game to get the win.
This left the Royals first in their pool and they would take on the Saskatoon Outlaws in the semi final. Behind a complete game from Bevan Ledingham the Royals won by a score of 11-6. Bevan actually only gave up three earned as the Outlaws capitalized on a couple Royals errors. Curtis Strueby led the offense with three hits and three RBI's.
This put the Royals in the final against the Holdfast Trappers. This was an outstanding final. Mathew Strueby pitched a complete game and Braden Bauml hit a two run bomb but it was not to be as the Royals lost by a score of 4-2. It was a well played game by both teams.
The Royals would like to thank all the people that made the drive to Yorkton to support them. It was great to see so many fans in the stands! Also the Royals would like to thank Ken and the Windy Acres Bed and Breakfast for the hospitality. What an amazing place to stay!
Although we lost we had a great weekend and will be heard from in the future for sure! Next action for the Royals is Tuesday at 9pm against the Stallions.
