Although the St. Peter town team fell two games short of its goal of reaching the Class C State Tournament, the Saints will be represented at the newly formatted 48-team single elimination playoff – the Belle Plaine Tigers selected Ty Kaus in the pitcher draft.
Kaus, a first-year member to the Saints, played the majority of the season in center field, but also made six appearances on the mound with one start. In his one start, Kaus tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout over the Le Sueur Braves in the first round of the Arlington/Gaylord High Life Invite. Four was the magic number in that game as he gave up only four hits in 24 at-bats with four strikeouts and four walks.
After 16 innings this season, Kaus tallied a 0.56 ERA, 1-0 record, 11 strikeouts, .143 opponent’s average and didn’t allow an extra-base hit in 56 at-bats.
Belle Plaine opens the State tourney against Region 4C (Kaus’ former region with St. James) No. 4 seed Leavenworth on Sunday, August 19 at Faber Field in St. Cloud. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m.
