Lady Wildcats improve to 4-0

On Tuesday, August 21, WJHS volleyball team hosted the Hickman County Lady Bulldogs. In the first set of the match, the Lady Bulldogs had a 9-6 lead before Waverly won the rally. Jaice Vann rotated to the service line for the Lady Wildcats and the girls put together a 6-point run. This gave Waverly the lead with the score 12-9. After the next two turns at serve for both teams, Waverly had a close 2-point lead, 15-13. The Lady Bulldogs lost the rally and the serve went back to the Lady Wildcats. Lofton Etheridge then rotated for her second turn at serve for Waverly. The Lady Wildcats then had a 7-point run and were ahead 22-13 before losing the rally. Waverly went on to take the first set 25-16.
The second set went to the Lady Bulldogs as the Lady Wildcats struggled somewhat in the set with 10 passing errors and 6 service errors. But, the Lady Wildcats came back strong in the third and final set. Waverly once again found themselves with a 2-point lead. Candace Clay rotated to serve for the Lady Wildcats and was able to serve out the set with a 9-point run for Waverly. The Lady Wildcats had only 3 service errors in this set and were 46 for 46 in passing!
Serving leaders for the Lady Wildcats were Jaice Vann 6 for 6 with 2 aces, Candace Clay 11 for 12 with 2 aces, Lofton Ehteridge 12 for 15 with 4 aces, Emily Davis 8 for 11 with 4 aces, and Shawna Donegan 3 for 4. Passing leaders were Winnie Bradley 38 for 38 with 5 kills and 2 digs, Emma Rushton 69 for 73 with 1 dig, Lofton Etheridge 45 for 48 with 3 kills and 1 dig, Candace Clay 21 for 23 with 1 kill and 2 digs, Emily Davis 38 for 42 with 1 kill, Shawna Donegan 9 for 10 with 2 kills, and Jaice Vann 3 for 4 with 1 kill and 1 dig.
The B-team for Waverly was also successful against Hickman County taking a 2-1 match win with scores of 22-25, 25-7, and 15-10.
On Thursday, August 23, the Lady Wildcats traveled to White Bluff to face the William James Lady Colonels. The Lady Wildcats were victorious in a 2-set match with scores of 25-15 and 25-23. This put the Lady Wildcats with a 4-0 conference record with an overall record of 6-2. The B-team for Waverly was not as fortunate in their match with the Lady Colonels. Scores in this match were 25-19, 19-25, and 10-15. This gave Waverly’s B-team their second loss of the season with an overall record of 2-2.
