Lady Wildcats finish 3rd at Mule Town Classic

After taking back-to-back losses in conference play against the Charlotte Lady Tigers, 17-25, 25-19, 11-15 and the Harpeth Lady Indians, 19-25 and 16-25, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Spring Hill to participate in the Mule Town Classic tournament in hopes of getting things turned around.
The Lady Wildcats began pool play on Friday, Sept. 7 facing Zion Middle School. Waverly had a solid performance from the serving line and won the match in two sets, 25-10 and 25-12. The next match for Waverly was another solid outing against Hampshire Middle School. The Lady Wildcats again won in two sets, 25-2 and 25-11. The next opponent in pool play for Waverly was Whitthorne Middle School. Again the Lady Wildcats were victorious in two sets, 25-7 and 25-22. This put the Lady Wildcats undefeated in pool play thus far with only one opponent left, the Dickson Lady Dragons, who were also undefeated in pool play. The match to determine the 1st place team in Pool C took all three sets with scores of 18-25, 25-23, and 7-15 in favor of the Lady Dragons.
With their second place finish in pool play, the Lady Wildcats advanced to the Gold Bracket and were seeded #4 overall in the field of 15 teams. The five teams making the gold bracket were Freedom Middle, Siegel, Dickson, Waverly, and South Warren. The Lady Wildcats began play in the single elimination part of the tournament facing South Warren, which was seeded #5. The Lady Wildcats won the 1st round match against South Warren with scores of 25-18 and 25-21. Waverly advanced to the semifinals to face #1 seed Freedom Middle. The Lady Wildcats knew this would be a tough match as they had given Freedom Middle a previous loss at the Cumberland University Middle School tournament. Freedom Middle took the first set 25-16. The Lady Wildcats made it a little tougher in the second set as they jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Freedom Middle came back with a 7-point run and the battle was to the end. Waverly took the loss, 24-26. The Lady Wildcats finished in 3rd place but were fighting to the end! Thanks to all who traveled with the Lady Wildcats to support these young ladies!!
