The Lady Wildcats suffered their third conference loss to the Charlotte Lady Tigers in a very exciting 3-set match in which all 3 sets were determined by the 2-point score difference. Scores were 26-24, 24-26, and 15-17. A lot of emotion came from this match as it seemed to fuel the Lady Wildcats for their next opponent.
On Tuesday, September 18, Waverly hosted the William James Lady Colonels. It was an impressive showing by the Lady Wildcats with only 3 serving errors, 7 passing errors, and 12 kills for the 2-set match. Waverly was ahead in the first set, 7-5, when Lofton Etheridge rotated to serve. A 14-point run was executed by the Lady Wildcats before losing a rally to the Lady Colonels. Waverly won the first set 25-9. In the second set, the run came servers later for Waverly with Candace Clay at the serving line. The Lady Wildcats were ahead 9-7, then with Clay serving an 8-point run occurred. Waverly won the second set 25-11. The Lady Wildcats' conference record currently stands at 8-3 with 1 remaining match and overall record is 14-7.
Serving leaders were Lofton Etheridge 17 for 17 with 3 aces, Candace Clay 9 for 9 with 4 aces, Emma Rushton 7 for 7 with 1 ace, Emily Davis 6 for 6 with 3 aces, and Winnie Bradley 6 for 8 with 2 aces. Passing leaders were Candace Clay 19 for 19 with 8 kills and 1 dig, Emma Rushton 46 for 47 with 1 kill, Emily Davis 34 for 37 with 1 kill and 4 digs, Lofton Etheridge 18 for 19 with 1 dig, Winnie Bradley 16 for 17 with 1 kill and 1 dig, and Paige Culp 7 for 7 with 1 kill.
The B-team for Waverly was also successful against the Lady Colonels needing only 2 sets for the win. Scores were 25-17 and 25-22. The current record for the B-team is 7-4.
Serving leaders were Gabby Terlecki 5 for 5 with 3 aces, Kaley Grisham 7 for 8 with 2 aces, Bailey Kilburn 9 for 12 with 5 aces, Jordan Barnett 8 for 11 with 5 aces, Makayla McGranahan 6 for 8 with 2 aces, and Allison Evrard 3 for 4 with 1 ace. Passing leaders were Bailey Kilburn 27 for 29 with 2 kills, Jordan Barnett 20 for 23 with 1 kill and 1 dig, Elizabeth Allison 8 for 11 with 1 kill and 1 dig, and Alyssa Miguez 6 for 8. Allison Evrard also had a kill for Waverly.
