8th Graders Recognized

On Tuesday, September 25, the Lady Wildcats hosted the Fairview Lady Falcons for their last regular season match for 2012. Waverly's B-team got things started in the right direction taking the first set from the Lady Falcons, 25-14. The second set went to the Lady Falcons, 25-17. The third set began with each team swapping service errors and loss of rallies to keep the score close. But the Lady Falcons took the first lead of the set, 8-4. The Lady Wildcats came back with a 4-point run to tie things up and for the remainder of the set there was never more than a 2-point difference in the score. It was a battle to the end. The Lady Wildcats came out on top beating the Lady Falcons in the third set 15-13 and taking the match win. Waverl's B-team finished their regular season with a home victory and an 8-4 record.

Serving leaders were Bailey Kilburn 13 for 16 with 8 aces, Jordan Barnett 9 for 11 with 7 aces, Kaley Grisham 10 for 12 with 5 aces, Emma Thomas 4 for 4, Makayla McGranahan 4 for 6 with 2 aces, Allison Evrard 3 for 5, and Alyssa Miguez 1 for 2 with 1 ace. Passing leaders were Bailey Kilburn 45 for 46 with 1 kill, Jordan Barnett 38 for 45 with 5 kills and 4 digs, Alyssa Miguez 9 for 11 with 1 kill, Kaley Grisham 14 for 18 with 1 kill and 1 dig, Elizabeth Allison 12 for 18 with 2 kills, Gabby Terlecki 10 for 14, Makayla McGranahan 5 for 5, and Emma Thomas 4 for 5.

Between the two matches, recognition was given to the 8th graders and their parents who will be moving on after the season. Winnie Bradley, Emma Rushton, Emily Davis, Lofton Etheridge (all 3rd year players), Shawna Donegan, Jaice Vann (2nd year players), and Alyssa Miguez (1st year player) was a wonderful group that will be missed dearly.

Waverly's A-team took the court with hopes of ending their regular season with a win, especially since it was on their home court. The Lady Wildcats were on the board first when the Lady Falcons lost the service rally to Waverly. The Lady Wildcats continued to build on that lead and won the first set 25-17.  The score in the second set remained fairly close early on until Candace Clay rotated to serve for the Lady Wildcats. Waverly then put together an 8-point run with Clay serving to give them a 17-7 lead. The Lady Wildcats went on to win the set 25-11, closing their regular season with a home victory and a 9-3 conference record.

Passing leaders were Emma Rushton 41 for 43, Lofton Etheridge 18 for 19 with 1 dig, Emily Davis 15 for 16, Winnie Bradley 24 for 28 with 3 kills and 1 dig, Candace Clay 13 for 14 with 1 dig, Paige Culp 6 for 6, Shawna Donegan 5 for 6 with 1 kill, and Jaice Vann 3 for 4 with 1 kill.
