Supers Clinch First Round Bye
Posted June 20, 2013
The Supers travelled to Langenburg on Thursday night in a battle for playoff positioning. The mission was simple: win and guarantee a first round bye in the Southeast Senior Baseball League playoffs. Well it was mission accomplished as Jason Blommaert tossed a four hit complete game while the offence picked up ten hits in a 4-1 victory.
Blommaert threw his best game of the season, allowing just one run, nine strikeouts and no walks as he kept the Indians guessing all night to earn his second win of the season.
The offence had some timely hits, but did not put any runs on the board until the fifth inning. Brogan Legebokoff would start the fifth inning rally with a single and a stolen base. Tannum Wyonzek and Zach Rakochy would each follow up with an rbi double to give the Supers a 2-0 lead and some breathing space. In the seventh inning, Wyonzek would once again start a rally with a two out single. Zach Rakochy once again drove in Wyonzek with a double, followed by an rbi single from Trevor Latham. That would be all the offence Blommaert needed as he was in complete control of the game from start to finish. In total the Supers had ten hits: three from Rakochy, two from Wyonzek, and one hit apiece from Derek Palagian, Latham, Legebokoff, Colby Parachoniak, and Blommaert.
With the win, the Supers record rises to 10-1, and have guaranteed to finish no worse than second in the league standings. For the Supers to finish first, they will have to win their remaining three games, and have to beat the Yorkton Yankees by three or more runs. The next game will be Friday, June 21 as the Supers visit the Parkland Padres at 8:00 P.M under the lights at Jubilee Park in Yorkton.
