Mounties Come Back THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT!

Posted June 19, 2013

The Vancouver Mounties came back from a 2 - 0 deficit and came back and scored 5 unanswered runs to defeat a tough and pesky Abbotsford Angels team.

The Angels opened the scoring in the top of the first when they made the Mounties pay for their only error of the game putting a man on 1st and then Loewen seized the opportunity by taking advantage of one of the few mistakes Mounties starter Younan made when he sent Younan’s gratuitus offering out of the deepest part of Nanaimo park for a 2 run blast.

The Mounties tried to battle back but were unsuccessfull stranding runners in scoring position in the first two innings.  Younan settled in and went on to shut the Angels down the rest of the way.  The Mounties finally got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd.  Quito led things off and singled but was thrown out on a controversial close call at 2nd base.  This ignited the Mounties as their 3 imports Ensing, Hogan and Lindeman all took matters into their own hands and all doubled to tie the game at 2 after 3 innings.

The score stayed that way and in the top of the 6th with a runner on and Abby threatening Ensing came in and after one pitch picked off the anxious Abby base runner to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 6th Abby also brought in a new pitcher as their starter was up in the 90's for pitch count.  After going down 0 - 2 Tintero battled and after an 8 pitch at bat put the ball in play and hit it to the shortstop,  the throw was a bit high causing the 1st baseman to leap for it, the first baseman came down on the bag but not before Tinteros foot hit the bag.  Well at least that's the way the umpire saw it but the Abbotsford side saw it another way and certainly let the umpire know that they did not think his call was correct.  Gee then sac bunted Tintero into scoring position.  Tintero took 3rd on a ball in the dirt and Kingsbury walked to put men on 1st and 3rd.  With 2 strikes on him Currie hit a sacrifice fly to score Tintero.  Quito followed that up with a single and both runners advanced on an errant pick off attempt.  Ensing clutched up and singled to add 2 more insurance runs and the Mounties were sitting pretty with a 5 - 2 lead.

Ensing retired all 3 batters that he faced and picked up the win while Younan for all his hard work was stuck with the no decision.  Younan went 5 and 2/3 innings giving up 2 runs, 1 earned, 5 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 9 Angel batters.  Ensing shut the door in relief retiring all 3 batters he faced including 1 strikeout.  The Mounties outhit the Angels on the evening 8 to 5.

It was a very hard fought game between two pretty even teams.  The game had a little bit of everything, good pitching, some great plays, some big hits and what would a game be without some controversial calls.  At the end of the day the Mounties are happy to walk away with a hard fought victory over a well coached Abbotsford Angel team.

Next up on the Mounties Hit List:  Okanagan Athletics and Cloverdale Spurs as the Mounties have 3 games scheduled on the same day to get the rainout game in where it never rained.   Yeah that's right the rainout game where it never rained. LOL
