The St. Peter town team hasn’t had much luck against the Jordan Brewers in recent years and that trend continued on Tuesday as the Saints were shut out 6-0 at Veterans Field.
Trent Bohnsack silenced the St. Peter bats with 10 strikeouts and just three hits. The only scoring threat he faced was in the fourth inning after Jesse Munsterman singled, stole second and third, but a grounder for the third out stranded Munsterman at third.
Jordan scored its first run in the third, which was unearned, on a fielder’s choice, double and error. In the fifth, the Brewers tallied four runs on three hits, a walk and another error. Their last run came in the seventh on a walk and a single.
Jeff Wenner suffered the loss after eight quality innings. He allowed three earned runs on 12 hits, three walks and a strikeout. Tom “Bully” Lacina made his first appearance on the mound this year in the ninth and had a 1-2-3 inning with the help of a double play.
Andy Schroeder went 2-for-4 to lead the Saints at the plate, while Munsterman (1-4, 2 SB) provided the only other hit.
The Saints are now 4-9 overall and 2-4 in River Valley League play. Here are the RVL West standings, as of June 25:
Gaylord 4-2
New Ulm 3-5 (2GB)
Arlington 2-4 (2GB)
St. Peter 2-4 (2GB)
Fairfax 1-6 (3.5 GB)
