Royals just miss playoff round

Posted August 12, 2013

The Royals took part in the Senior AA Provincials this past weekend in Saskatoon.  The first game saw the Royals lose to the Stallions by a score of 9-8.  The boys played a strong game making only one error and belting out twelve hits but the Stallions pieced together five runs in their half of the seventh to win it.  The Royals then took on the Diggers Saturday morning.  Colin Bauml threw a very good 6 and a third innings with Eric Bollefer throwing the last two thirds.  The Royals made two errors defensively, however, the story of this game was the bats.  The boys only managed three hits and lost the game by a score of 4-2.  This put the Royals in a must win game against the Regina Capitals.  Pickup Graemes Scott started on the bump for the Royals and threw a strong five and two thirds.  Mathew Strueby then came in and threw the final four innings as the game went into extras.  Three times the Capitals took the lead in the game and three times the Royals came back.  They finally pushed the winning run across in the ninth inning to win 6-5.  This left a three way tie for second in the pool and unfortunately for the Royals they did not make it in as they gave up four more runs then the Capitals.

The final saw the Smoking Guns defeat the Diggers by a score of 7-3.  Congratulations to the Guns on a much deserved provincial title and best of luck at Westerns in Provost.

Also thank you to the Stallions for hosting an excellent event.  Everything was run extremely well!!
