Lady Wildcats defeat Charlotte

On Tuesday, August 27 the Lady Wildcats traveled to Charlotte to take on the Lady Tigers for their first meeting of the regular season. In past seasons, meetings between the two teams have proved to be very exciting matches. This one was no different.
In the first set of the night, the Lady Wildcats worked together and had a 7-point run with Kaley Grisham serving, giving them a 13-6 lead. Another run for Waverly came with Bailey Kilburn serving. This time it was a 9-point run. The Lady Wildcats went on to take the set 25-14.
In the second set, again with Kaley Grisham serving, Waverly had an 8-point run and was out in front 14-10. With the Lady Wildcats out in front 16-11, the Lady Tigers fought back with a run of their own, scoring 10 points to put them in the lead at 21-16. The Lady Wildcats made several great plays during Charlotte's run, the ball was just not falling for Waverly. Charlotte finally lost a rally on a passing error, giving the serve back to Waverly. With a pass being tipped into the net for Waverly, the serve went back to Charlotte 22-17. The serve immediately came back to Waverly when Kaley Grisham made a dig on the serve from the Lady Tigers and the ball fell on Charlotte's side of the court.
Candace Clay then rotates back to serve for the Lady Wildcats with the score 22-18 in Charlotte's favor. During the next four rallies, the Lady Wildcats had a dig by Candace Clay, a block by Paige Culp, and 2 ace serves by Candace Clay to tie the score at 22-22. At this point, the Lady Wildcats were determined to play for 1 point at a time hoping to come away with the win. During the next two rallies, the Lady Tigers had a kill that was directed out of bounds and another kill that was directed into the net. Waverly was at set point with Candace Clay still serving. The set was ended with an ace serve by Clay giving the Lady Wildcats the win.
The Lady Wildcats played hard for this win as the stats show for serving Kaley Grisham 14 for 15 with 4 aces, Candace Clay 11 for 12 with 4 aces, Bailey Kilburn 10 for 12 with 2 aces, Jordan Barnett 4 for 4 with 2 aces, Paige Culp 4 for 4 with 1 ace, and Brityn Sain 2 for 2. Passing leaders were Bailey Kilburn 24 for 24, Candace Clay 17 for 19 with 1 kill and 5 digs, Jordan Barnett 25 for 28 with 1 kill and 4 digs, Paige Culp 18 for 21 with 2 digs and 4 blocks. Elizabeth Allison had 3 kills and 1 block.Kaley Grisham and Brityn Sain each added a dig during the match.
The Lady Wildcats added another win to their record on Thursday, August 29 against Fairview. Currently the Lady Wildcats are 5-1 in conference play with their overall record at 9-3.
