The Lady Wildcats volleyball team had a busy week with three matches starting with hosting the Harpeth Lady Indians on September 9. Waverly started the season with a loss to Harpeth and that may have been a wake-up call to the Lady Wildcats as they have played well since that meeting. The Lady Wildcats definitely turned their performance around from the first meeting beating Harpeth in two sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-19.
On Tuesday, September 10, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Lyles to face the East Hickman Lady Eagles. The score remained close in the first set until the Lady Wildcats took a 5-point lead towards the end and then won the set 25-17. The second set looked as if it was going to be in favor of the Lady Wildcats as they took an early 12-3 lead, but the Lady Eagles began chipping away at that lead. The score was tied late in the set at 23-23 with the Lady Eagles serving. The rally was won by the Lady Wildcats with a kill from Elizabeth Allison.
With the score 24-23 at set point, Jordan Barnett rotates back to serve for Waverly. Barnett's serve goes into the net and the score is tied again, 24-24. From this point in the set, the score was tied seven more times. The Lady Eagles had three opportunities at set point and the Lady Wildcats had five opportunities. The score was 32-31 and set point again in favor of the Lady Wildcats. The rally goes until Candace Clay for Waverly puts down a kill the Lady Eagles were unable to return. Waverly wins 33-31!!! This was the highest scoring set the Lady Wildcats has ever participated in.
The Lady Wildcats played a third match for the week, hosting Hickman County. After losing the first set 27-25, Waverly was able to win the next two sets 25-18 and 15-11 for the match win. The Lady Wildcats are currently 8-1 in conference play, and are 12-3 overall.
