Posted October 3, 2013
In November 2002, Willie McCray founded the Dallas Diesel Basketball Club as a non-profit organization to aid basketball athletes in their goals to become professionals on and off the court through ministry and competitive play. With the assistance of Cortez Bond, Shirley Walker-King, Empress Drane, and Prentiss Broadway, The Dallas Diesel has become a well-recognized force among national associations, city tournaments, college communities, and international circuits.
On October 11th, 2003 a newly formed Travel Team named the Dallas Diesel, stepped on the basketball court to face their former collegiate alma maters throughout the state of Texas. Comprised of former college players with ages ranging from 22 to 32, the Diesel were unknowingly building a foundation and reputation that would open the doors of opportunity for countless future basketball athletes to reach their dreams.
In 2004, the Dallas Diesel introduced their Jr. Boys program and in 2008, their Jr. Girls program to offer summer league play and scholarship opportunities for high school students ages 14-18.
In 2005, the popularity and expansion of the Diesel Women’s program gave birth to a new women’s semi-professional basketball league, known as the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL). Currently, the WBCBL highlights 35 teams throughout North America and features current and former collegiate players, as well as professional International and former WNBA players.
Today, the track record of the Dallas Diesel Basketball Club has accounted for over 40 college athletic scholarships for their Jr. Team players and over 100 professional basketball contracts for their Adult players.
