2013 President’s Report

I would first like to thank everyone for showing interest in our baseball program by attending our annual general meeting.  It is through a lot of volunteer hours by this board that our program runs seamlessly and efficiently for the benefit of our players and coaches.  Our commitment remains to provide the highest level of baseball experience for kids in the city of Edmonton. Tonight we will review the SEEBA program for 2013.

At this time I would like to recognize all of out 2013 board members:

Gil Briscoe – Past President                           Dave Shedden  - Tournament Director

Gerry Dawidowski- Vice President                Sandy Langley  - Registrar

Murray Engleking – Secretary                        Laurie Robbins – Registrar

Carmen Yarema – Treasurer                           Rhena St. Laurent – Director at Large

Rod Scammel – Coaching Director                Dennis Wiun – Director at Large

Greg Yarema – Equipment Director

Dave Shedden, Rhena St. Laurent, and Dennis Wuin will all be retiring from the board this year.  I would like to personally thank them for all the work , time, and effort they have given our club over the years.

Our 2013 season began with our winter workout camp running from mid January with approximately 90 participants.  We were able to field 4 performance level teams in Baseball Alberta in 2013  1 pee wee, 1 bantam, and 2 midget.

Our casino rotation comes up again in the spring of 2014 so we will once again be looking for volunteers to help run the 2 day commitment. The last casino generated approximately $76,000 so it is a very important function for our club.  We received the 2013 Community Investment Operating Grant from the City of Edmonton of $14,723.00 and our 2014 application has been completed and submitted.

A big volunteer project each year is the Peter Devries Tournament that we host in June for the 2 Midget Teams.  This year we finally had weather that cooperated and we managed to complete the weekend with our Midget #1 team winning the championship.

Looking forward to 2014, we will not be running a pee wee performance team.  Both SJP and EABA (Edmonton Amateur Baseball Assoc. old Mill Woods Little League ) will be entering teams at the pee wee level for Edmonton and area players.

It has come to our attention that EABA is intending to field a bantam performance team in 2014.  We have had a Zone 6 meeting with Baseball Alberta to discuss the matter. SEEBA and SJP do not believe we have the necessary numbers to field to competitive teams at that level for the upcoming season. I have requested Alberta Baseball hold an open evaluation early in 2014 to identify the numbers of bantam age players that would be interested and able to play at that level. We will continue to work with SJP and Confederation Park to provide a performance level bantam team for 2014.

We will try to firm up coaches over the next couple of months so that they will be in place when our winter camp starts in mid Jan.

In summary, we look forward to fielding 3 performance level teams for the upcoming season, 1 Bantam, and 2 Midget.  Finally I would like to thank all of our coaches, players and parents for a great 2013 season.

Respectfully,

Duane Robertson

President
