Cannons Fall Ball

Cannons Fall Ball Baseball School opens August 31 at 5:00 p.m. at Queen’s Park Stadium.

Fall Ball includes returning Cannons plus new players.  It is essentially an instructional program for players 13 to 18 years of age.

The cost is $225, which includes seven weeks of coaching and games, plus a Cannons shirt and hat for all new players.

We have junior and senior games with teams in the PBL, plus two tournaments at Spooner Creek in Blaine and a doubleheader with Bellingham at the pro Joe Martin Stadium.  (Check the CALENDAR for preliminary schedule.)

The coaching staff includes:

Dave Empey, head coach

Grant Rimer, assistant coach

Josh Hundal, assistant coach,

Graeme Lehman, strength and conditioning

Lorne Berkun, sprint coach

Rob Favaro, assistant coach

Jeff Matsuda, assistant coach

              Dave Empey, head coach

Dave has put 14 players into professional baseball. Three of them have played in the big leagues, including Ryan Dempster, currently pitching in his 13th year in the National League and the acknowledged leader of the Chicago Cubs.

Dempster was an all-star in 2000 with the Florida Marlins and again in 2008 when he won 17 games for the Cubs.  Ryan, who signed a $52 million contract three years ago, is in the prime of his career and was opening day starter this season at Wrigley Field.

Three players from the same team in the big leagues is unprecedented in Canadian baseball history.  What's more, Empey has had players drafted 24 times by MLB teams and put more than 70 into college baseball.  His coaching experience includes nine years with the North Shore Twins, four in junior college, and now three years with the Cannons.  He's also coached football, basketball and soccer.
