Notes:
Make-up Game from 5-30 Pius returned to conference play versus Catholic Memorial on Tuesday evening at Frame Park. It would be interesting to see how the Popes would bounce back after the emotional win against Marquette the previous night. Pius jumped out early with 2-Runs in the 1st. Saglin and Seagraves each reached on HBP’s, Saglin stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a WP, Seagraves stole 2nd, Foy got Pius on the board with a groundout RBI, advancing Seagraves to 3rd, Seagraves scored on a WP. Lenksi singled but was left stranded to end the inning. Pius scored 2-Runs in the 4th and a single tally in the 5th, to take a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th. CM got on the board with 1-Run in the bottom of 5 to make it 5-1 Pius. Joel Seagraves started for Pius and was cruising along until the 6th, but tired after throwing 105 pitches to this point. CM loaded the bags full in the 6th. Jessie Stewart came on in relief, and after working the count to 2-2 on Kinnear, threw the dreaded gopher ball. Kinnear went yard with the Grand Slam and the game was tied at 5-5. Pius would need some late game heroics again to pull this one out. Foy got things going in the 7th with a HBP, a FC and BB loaded the bases to set the stage for Sophomore Justin Hunt. Hunt delivered with a DBL, chasing 3-Runners home. Pius scored 2 more insurance runs in the inning to take a 9-5 lead into the home half of the 7th. Stewart shut them down to get the win. Seagraves went 5 2/3 innings, allowed 4-Hits, pitched well, and also appeared to get squeezed some in the 5th & 6th. Umpires need to let the kids decide the outcome of the game. Justin Hunt supplied the majority of the offensive with 2 DBL’s, 4-RBI, while reaching 4X’s in the game. Tim Pauly and Steve Lenski each added a single. Zack Feerick reached 4X’s and Scott Schreck reached 3X’s. Pius now stands at 4-2 in conference play. |
