The 2014 campaign for the St. Peter amateur baseball club will feature some new faces with the departure of some veteran players.
The Saints lose five veterans but have added six new players to fill their shoes.
Matt Lewis is switching from one River Valley League team to another. Lewis has been Le Sueur’s top pitcher the past few years and now joins the Saints.
With Lake Crystal folding, outfielder Ryan Kapsner has decided to play for St. Peter, and former Mankato Twins pitcher Nick Kaus joins his cousin, Ty Kaus, on the Saints roster.
Also new to the team are Gage Paur, Cameron Victor and Jayme Munsterman. Paur is originally from Bird Island, but now lives and works in St. Peter. Victor hails from Rapid City, South Dakota, went to the University of Minnesota, Duluth for school and now lives in St. Peter. Munsterman, a junior at Mankato West High School, joins his older brother, Jesse, on the roster.
Returning veterans include Billy Hanson, Jeff Menk, Jesse Munsterman, Ryan Wenner, Ty Kaus, Shea Roehrkasse, CJ Siewert, Ben Mikelson, Mike Enz, Jesse Anderson, Grant Nelsen, Jordan Seebach, Jeremy Braun, Seth Wenner, Jordan Wilmes, Jeff Wenner, Kevin Sandborg and Nick Kempenich.
This year marks a milestone season for St. Peter’s most veteran player. Mike Enz enters his 30th season of amateur baseball. Enz joined the team when he was 16 and has played for the Saints every summer since.
Manager Tom “Bully” Lacina enters his 24th season at the helm.
The Saints kick off their season at home Friday, May 9 against Baseball 365 – a new Class A team from Bloomington. The regular season schedule includes at least 26 games and one invitational tournament. The local nine will once again compete in the Arlington/Gaylord High Life Invite June 20-22.
Region 6C playoffs begin Friday, Aug. 1 and this year’s state tournament is hosted by fellow RVL teams Belle Plaine, Jordan and Le Sueur.
