| Game Notes: Pius made it interesting against Mukwonago on Friday at beautiful Rainbow Park. This one was another testimonial to the old adage that looking good on paper doesn’t get you any respect on game day. Peter Behnke was on the mound for Pius and Micah Thompson for the Indians. Pius jump out to a 2-0 lead after 2-Innings. OK, looking good so far, Right?? Check that? Prosperity came home to bite Pius in the rear-end. Behnke gave up 2-Hits in a row to start the 3rd, and Mukwonago said thank you very much, and before the carnage was over, Pius found themselves on the wrong side of a 6-2 score. All told, the Indians sent 10-Batters to the dish in the Inning, scoring 6-Runs on 5-Hits. Behnke did not have his best stuff today. The resilient Popes would battle back though, sending 8-Batters to the plate in the 5th, and scoring 3-Runs on 3-Hits to close the gap to 6-5 through 5-Innings. Some shoddy base running in the 6th almost doomed Pius, but cooler heads prevailed in the 7th-Inning. Tim Pauly got things going in the 7th with a BB, stole 2nd base, and scored the tying Run on a Kevin Doerr single. With Jeremy Penn at 1st (in running for Doerr), Mukwonago messed up an attempted pick-off play at 1st that allowed Penn to advance to 2nd base. The stage was set, and Junior Scott Schreck delivered the game winning single scoring Penn. Pius narrowly escaped with the 7-6 win. Scott Perry came on to relieve Behnke in the 7th to get the win for Pius. You can’t spot any team 4-Runs and expect good things to happen. Hopefully, the team will treat this one as a learning experience for the future. | ||||||||||
