Reds Halt Supers Streak
Posted May 31, 2014
On Wednesday May 28, the Swan River Reds rolled into town looking to put an end to the Supers five game winning streak. They made sure of it right off the start as they scored five runs in the top of the first on their way to a 6-3 victory.
The Supers had their chances with eight hits, seven walks and a hit batter to reach base. Unfortunately they left twelve runners on base and could not capitalize on their opportunities. In the bottom of the second, the Supers had bases loaded with none out, but could only get one run on a wild pitch. With the score 6-3 in the last half of the seventh, the Supers loaded the bases and were knocking on the door to tie the game, but just could not come through.
It was a game to remember for catcher Travis Fogg as he had four hits in as many at bats to lead the offence. The other hits were singles by Greg Andreychuk, Logan Parachoniak, Scott Sharp, and Evan Rostotski.
Derek Palagian started pitching, and threw five innings. Although he had a tough first inning, he settled down and pitched well the rest of the evening, striking out eight Reds. Darcy Blommaert pitched the final two with a couple of three up three down innings.
The loss puts the Supers record at 5-1. The next game will be Monday, June 2nd as the Melville Bison come to town for a 6:15 PM game. Thursday's game with Langenburg was rained out. The makeup game will be announced shortly
