The Charlotte Invasion Shoots for Success In Its Inaugural Season
Posted June 14, 2014
The Charlotte Invasion is taking the Queen City by storm, one basket at a time. The semi-pro women’s basketball team is well into its inaugural season, and all 14 team members are shooting for success. As a part of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League, the team is designed for women ages 20 and older to compete in basketball beyond amateur status.
Now that the Charlotte Sting is no more, these newcomers want to fill that void for women’s basketball in Charlotte. Besides winning games, the goal of the Charlotte Sting is to build up the community through positive role models that exhibit excellence both on and off the court.
The Charlotte Invasion is owned by Tonya Phifer, a Charlotte native, who played basketball for Charlotte Latin before signing with UNC-Charlotte in 1997.
