Supers Shutout in 2 Consecutive Outings

Posted June 18, 2014

The Supers have lost two consecutive games for the first time all season as they fell 1-0 on Monday night to the Yorkton Yankees, and 6-0 Wednesday night to the Willowbrook Royals.

Monday June 14- Yorkton Yankees 1 Canora Supers 0 - Yorkton Sask

This game turned out to be a pitchers duel between the Supers Travis Fogg and the Yankees Logan Calanchie. After matching zeroes for the first four innings, the Yankees were able to put one across in the bottom of the fifth inning in what turned out to be the games only run in a Yankees victory.

Fogg was excellent on the mound as he pitched six innings, allowing seven hits, four strikeouts, three walks and one unearned run to take the loss. On most night's his efforts would have easily been good enough for the win.

On the sticks, the Supers managed only five singles from Derek Palagian, Travis Mentanko, Logan Parachoniak, Greg Andreychuk, and Phil Sobkow. Sobkow made his Supers debut in this contest.

The fielding was solid on the evening with just one error committed.

Wednesday June 18 - Canora Supers 0 at Willowbrook Royals 6

It was another frustrating evening for the Supers as they could only produce five hits off of Royals pitcher Greg Pelechaty as they were shutout once again.

Derek Palagian, Travis Mentanko, Zach Rakochy and Colby Parachoniak each had a single, while Darcy Blommaert had a double. The Supers had a couple of good scoring chances. In the top of the second, they had runners on second and third with one out and stranded them. In the top of the third, a rally ended on a pickoff, and they left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth

The defence had a night to forget as fiver errors led to four of the six runs being unearned for starting pitcher Logan Parachoniak. Even though there were some costly errors, there was a few bright spots as Derek Palagian had two assists from left field, while center fielder Kory Achtymichuk threw out a runner at home plate. Logan Parachoniak gave up eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks to take the loss.

The Supers record falls to 7-3 on the season. Their next game is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 as they travel to Swan River to take on the Reds. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM Saskatchewan time
